The international banking structure is the private component of the international monetary system. Given the general framework provided by the international agreements and institutions, the banking industry provides liquidity (money) to the system and helps finance imbalances that develop among countries. In this unit, we will address each functions separately. We will also see how there are two parallel banking systems at the international level for each major currency; the traditional one and the so-called Eurocurrency system.
